Weld County School District RE-1 encompasses the three rural communities of LaSalle, Gilcrest and Platteville. Elementary schools are located in each of the three towns, middle schools are located in LaSalle and Platteville, and Valley High School is located in Gilcrest. The main industry of the area is agriculture.
Valley High School is accredited by the Colorado Department of Education and the North Central Association. The enrollment at the high school (grades 9-12) is approximately 560 students. Roughly 65-70% of Valley's graduates continue their education by attending two- or four-year colleges, mainly in the state of Colorado.
Valley High School offers honors courses in English I, English II, Geography, World History, Algebra and Earth Science. Advanced Placement courses offered are English Literature & Composition and English Language & Composition. Dual credit classes are available through Aims Community College and University of Northern Colorado. Please note that not all honors/AP courses are offered every year. In addition to the academic courses listed on the reverse side, the curriculum includes Agriculture Education, Art, Business & Computers, ACE, Consumer & Family Studies, Construction Trades, Music and Physical Education.
In 2012-2013, the Weld County School District RE-1 adopted a four-day school week. School is in session Tuesday-Friday, with students at Valley High School attending 7 credit-bearing classes every day. Classes meet for 55 minutes.
Grade point averages and class rank are computed on a weighted, 4-point system. The mean score on the SAT for the graduating class of 2019 is 923.
