Online Policies
- Students can take online courses at Valley High School using the Odysseyware program.
- Students must get counselor/administrator permission before enrolling in online courses.
- Students will have one semester to complete online courses.
- Students are limited to 2 online courses (1.0 credit) per semester and to 3.0 total online credits, unless a waiver has been approved by the administration. (From School Board Policy IJNDAB*: High school students may earn a maximum of three (3) units of academic credit to be applied toward graduation requirements by satisfactorily completing online courses. The principal may waive this limitation on the number of credits that may be applied toward graduation upon submission of a student’s written request explaining unusual circumstances that make it necessary for the student to take additional online courses to satisfy the district’s graduation requirements.)
- Courses can be taken for credit recovery or for enrichment/advancement.
- All courses will be given a letter grade and will factor into the student's GPA.
- Courses not completed during one semester may be entered onto the student’s transcript as a failing grade.
Credit Recovery
- Credit recovery courses will be taken in “credit recovery mode” where students will have the opportunity to test out of portions of the course based on their content knowledge.
Enrichment/Advancement
- Students wishing to take classes not offered at Valley High School may have the option of taking the class online using the Odysseyware program.
- Students must complete the entire course and will not have the option to test out of portions on the course.
Expectations
- Classes will be monitored by the counselors, but students are responsible for pacing themselves.
- Students must complete all assigned lessons, projects, tests and quizzes.
- Students are encouraged to ask teachers and counselors for help.
Parent Access
- Parents can have a parent account to monitor their student’s progress.
- For a parent account, you need an email and internet access.
- Talk to the counselor to set up a parent account.
ONLINE SEMINAR
All students taking online classes will meet with their counselor twice a month to discuss progress and monitor success.
